U.S. apple storage numbers are up from last year

In its second report this year, the U.S. Apple Association reported that apples in storage are up by 17% from the same time last year. This follows its first issue in April of this year which reported apple holdings down by 12% on last year.

Apples in storage currently total 161.7m bushels. In comparison, in December of last year there were 138.4m bushels in storage.

This year's holdings as of Dec. 1 totaled 118.3m bushels, 15% more than inventories during the same period last year.

Apples in processing are also up from this time last year, by 21%. Current processing holdings total 43.4m bushels.

Additionally, the survey took data from the USDA to analyze apple prices. In its data on the historical prices of fresh apples, it showed that the 2019 crop thus far remains relatively consistent with prior years.
