Meet BOB—Fresh Del Monte's new robot enticing French shoppers with bananas and pineapples

Global fresh produce giant Fresh Del Monte is officially unveiling its latest marketing activation featuring BOB Del Monte, the company's interactive robot designed to bring a friendly vibe to supermarkets' fresh produce aisles.
The first images of BOB went viral on social media back in September, but at the time, the robot was only in its trial run.
Today, the rolling shelf can be seen at France's Intermarché Gif-sur-Yvette, showcasing Fresh Del Monte's renowned offering of bananas and pineapples—just in time to add some Caribbean flavor to the European fall.
Bananas, pineapples, and... robots?
BOB is part of an activation featuring a dynamic setup including premium exotic fruit displays, a tasting stand with a dedicated promoter, and UHD screens showcasing Fresh Del Monte's farms, the company explains. But everything is just a setting for the campaign's undeniable star.
"BOB has been specially trained to move throughout the store, from the fresh produce section to the entrance and all the way to the checkout area," reads the company's press release.
They explain that depending on its location and activity, BOB communicates different messages and encourages shoppers to pause and pick up a bunch of bananas or a pineapple from its cart.
Fresh Del Monte says the activation "is proving to be a great success," appreciated by clients, store visitors, and the general public.
The company didn't provide an itinerary for BOB's next stop, but they said the plan is to bring the robot to other European countries soon.
