First batch of 2026 Zhanjiang lychees sail for the US market
A container loaded with 21.5 tons of high-quality lychees departed the Risheng Cooperative in Lianjiang City for the United States on April 15, according to a Chinese local news outlet, Zhanjiang Cloud Media.
This is Zhanjiang City's first full container exported during the 2026 season, and is also among the first batches exported from China this year. The shipment was cleared for export after passing inspection and quarantine by Lianjiang Customs, and is expected to arrive on American shores in around two weeks.

The news report says the shipment corresponds to the characteristically early-ripening Guihuaxiang variety, which features plump, juicy flesh with a clear, refreshing taste. The cultivar, says Zhanjiang Cloud Media, offers a crisper, fresher, and warmer flavor profile than other early-ripening varieties, such as Sanyuehong.
The ripening period for Zhanjiang lychees is slightly shorter this year than in previous campaigns, local media reports. The Liangdong Risheng Cooperative seized this seasonal opportunity and was able to successfully secure the first-mover advantage.
A lychee variety that leverages geography
Lychees grown in Lianjiang, to the southeast of Shenzhen, benefit from the local shallow hill topography, abundant sunlight, and mild climate.
Local growers have made continuous efforts to improve the fruit, leading to superior quality in the region. This exotic fruit features a large size and small pits, as well as crisp and juicy flesh, and a sweet yet not cloying taste. With their excellent flavor and consistent quality, they have long been favored by international consumers.

Since their first international export in 2006, Lianjiang lychees have been exported to dozens of countries and regions, including Europe, the United States, and Southeast Asia.
Currently, the lychee orchards spanning thousands of hectares in Lianjiang are thriving, with a concentrated market launch expected by the end of May this year.
