Alan Barry appointed new Lidl US CEO
Lidl US named Alan Barry as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective in July, the company confirmed to Supermarket News earlier this week. The discount grocer continues to adjust its leadership team amid ongoing efforts to expand and strengthen its position in the United States.
Barry currently serves as the retailer's US Chief Operating Officer. He will succeed interim CEO Marco Giudici, who stepped into the role after Joel Rampoldt left the company in January.

The retailer also appointed Maciej Tylkowski as Chief Operating Officer and Jassine Ouali as Chief Customer Officer. Both executives previously held similar leadership roles for Lidl operations in Great Britain and France.
Lidl bets on company experience
Barry has worked for the company for about 20 years. In 2024, the company appointed him Chief Development Officer for the retailer in Ireland, following his tenure in the same role in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
“Lidl remains committed to its long-term US growth strategy, and the addition of Maciej Tylkowski and Jassine Ouali to the leadership team will further enhance our customer experience and deliver on our promise of exceptional value and quality,” Barry said in a statement.

The US CEO role has seen frequent turnover since the German retailer entered the US market in 2017. Rampoldt served as CEO for just over two years, becoming the company’s fifth US chief executive during that period.
Lidl operates nearly 200 stores in the US, according to the company, and more than 12,000 locations across Europe. The retailer has faced challenges building brand awareness and competing against larger discount chains, including Walmart and Aldi.
