Peruvian avocado exports hit 60 percent milestone amid season adjustments

Despite adverse weather that has negatively impacted fruit development, Peruvian avocado exports are currently in full swing. Shipments recently hit the 60 percent mark, the Andean country’s Hass Avocado Producers and Exporters Association (ProHass) confirmed to FreshFruitPortal.com.

However, as the sector now enters the second half of the campaign, the pace of harvesting and exports is expected to gradually slow.

Revised outlook

ProHass has initially projected a six percent uptick in shipments. However, evolving climate patterns in key growing regions, coupled with updated data from exporting companies, have shifted that outlook.

Current estimates now indicate that the 2026 campaign will conclude with export volumes very similar to those recorded in 2025. Based on data collected to date, ProHass anticipates the season has already passed its peak for weekly shipments to Europe. This anticipated decline in shipments over the coming weeks should help balance supply and demand in that market.

Europe remains the primary destination for Peruvian Hass avocados, receiving approximately 65 percent of total exports. The United States currently ranks second as the industry continues to consolidate commercial programs and long-term relationships.

Climate conditions weigh on the Peruvian avocado season

Sustained high minimum and maximum temperatures across various growing valleys have prevented fruit from reaching standard sizes, ProHass reported. This has simultaneously accelerated dry matter accumulation and advanced harvest windows.

This combination has led to a higher proportion of smaller fruit, increased field fruit drop, and necessary adjustments to export-quality availability during the second half of the campaign.

ProHass will continue to monitor campaign development and ongoing weather conditions that could influence future production.
