Michoacan finishes 2025/26 avocado season 27 percent below last
A week after the United States resumed its official activities in Michoacan, including necessary inspections for exporting avocados across the border, the Mexican state released the final results for its 2025-26 season.
According to the Government of Michoacan, the region produced 1.46 million tonnes of avocados. The total sits 27 percent under last season's, when local producers reported 2 million tonnes of fruit, according to a March report by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

During the last campaign, the state exported over 85 percent of its production to the US, totaling 1.25 million tonnes. This year marked a record-breaking season for Mexican avocado imports north of the border, up 32 percent from the last campaign.
Michoacan, a key piece in the Mexican avocado puzzle
Michoacan is one of only two Mexican states authorized by the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to export avocados to the US. The region accounts for over 70 percent of the category's planted acreage in the country, totaling 672,000 acres in 30 states.
