Kroger launches AI-powered tool across its online platforms
There’s still some summer left, but for those who’re already planning how to soften the landing back to reality and routine, Kroger just launched an Artificial Intelligence-powered assistant to help out.
In a press release published on July 28, the retailer explained that the new tool is available across its websites and apps, comprising “a smarter, simpler way to plan meals, discover products and find value, however customers choose to shop.”

"We continue to invest in digital tools that make shopping simpler, more intuitive and more convenient for our customers," said Yael Cosset, executive vice president and chief digital officer at Kroger. "The AI Shopping Assistant is another example of how we're using technology and AI to help families plan, discover and shop more easily."
Through the platform, shoppers will be able to plan meals for the week, find new recipes and build a cart around budget and dietary needs. The tool also allows customers to create a shopping cart from a recipe card, a URL or even a handwritten note, and provides suggestions for special occasions or weeknight dinners.
Kroger’s latest AI effort
The retailer’s AI shopping tool is only its latest effort incorporating the technology into its supply chain.
Back in April, CNBC reported that the American chain was posting positive results after implementing AI services from Flashfood, a shopping app that gives customers access to discounted groceries nearing the end of their shelf life.

The tool not only provides a more competitive option for price-sensitive shoppers, but also helps manage waste by maximizing revenue.
“We see AI as a meaningful opportunity to both improve the customer experience and drive productivity across our business,” said Kroger Chairman Ronald Sargent on the company’s Q1 2026 earnings call, according to the news outlet. “We’re already seeing results from more competitive pricing.”
Flashfood continues to expand into more Kroger locations, consolidating a presence that now totals over 2,000 stores across North America.
