Panorama Produce’s Martina mangoes recalled over Salmonella risk
Another season, another produce recall. This time, New York wholesaler Panorama Produce has recalled 302 boxes of mangoes sold at select Walmart stores in four Northeastern states after a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sample found a risk of Salmonella contamination.
The withdrawal covers size 9 mangoes distributed from August 10 through 21 in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the product, according to the company.
Recalled mango specifics
The recalled mangoes come in Martina-branded cases, the FDA noted. Additionally, individual fruit also suspected of contamination carries a light blue sticker identifying Agrofepac, Produce of Mexico, along with PLU 4584 and UPC 07503061948050.
Salmonella can cause infections that may result in fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The FDA says infections can be particularly serious for young children, older or frail people, and those with weakened immune systems. The infection can also sometimes spread to the bloodstream and cause more severe illnesses.
Panorama Produce is conducting the recall voluntarily in coordination with the FDA.
Consumers should check the product identifiers to determine whether their mangoes are included in the recall, the agency has warned.
Consumers already in possession of the allegedly contaminated fruit should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase. Anyone who believes they have become ill should contact a health care provider.
