The moniker of a new mango variety could honor another famous Australian export, singer The Australian Broadcasting Co.’s abc.net.au reported.

Northern Territory Primary Industry Minister Kon Vatskalis has proposed naming one of three new mango varieties after the star.

“She is the princess of pop and just like royalty it would be fitting to have a Territory icon named after her,” he is quoted as saying.

The three varieties have been developed over 16 years by the National Mango Breeding Program. They could be ready for sale in supermarkets in 2012.

“These three varieties of mango will hopefully give producers a new product for the domestic and export markets, while consumers will benefit from an improvement in the quality of fruit,” Mr. Vatskalis said, according to the website.
