Chile apple harvest finishes

Chilean apple growers expect to export 869,000 metric tons (MT) this season following the end of harvests this month, according to market research agency iQonsulting.

An iQonsulting survey found growers expected a 4% rise in production, while there was also an earlier advancement of harvests with a 47.5% rise in exports in the first three months of the year, compared to the same period in 2010.

"The fruit has been less consistent than in normal seasons, especially with the Royal Gala variety. However, as it's intended to keep the fruit in better condition in its firmness measurements, there has been no unusual behavior up until the third week of May," the iQonsulting report said.
