Zespri to market Enza Gold in Europe
In a press release, Enzafruit managing director Tony Fisette said while the program was quite small, it was important that it was done at a level that would allow customers to see and gain confidence in the product.
Zespri Europe general manager Bart Barmans said with increasing growth in the gold kiwifruit category, the trial would give both companies a better understanding of how the category could be built for consumers and New Zealand growers.
The landmark deal is the first time Enza and Zespri have worked together on kiwifruit marketing in the continent, although they have worked together on kiwifruit programs in the Southern Hemisphere for many years.
Both execs said they looked forward to putting recent tension between Enza and Zespri behind them to take a practical approach to understanding how they might work together in the future.
The marketing agreement is the second this year with Enza's parent company Turners & Growers, under new management led by German fruit company BayWa.
In April, Kiwifruit New Zealand (KNZ) approved a year-long collaborative marketing agreement to sell 60,000 trays of Enza Gold in South Korea and 30,000 trays in Hong Kong and mainland China.
