Italy: Ferrero to source Australian hazelnuts

Italian chocolate company Ferrero plans to source hazelnuts from a new project in the Australian state of New South Wales, website reported. Ferrero Rocher

Agri Australis won the approval to grow the nuts from the state government's Western Joint Regional Planning Panel, with plans to grow one million trees acros 2,000ha in Sandigo, the story reported.

The first commercial crop is expected in four years with the trees expected to reach full production by 2021.

Agri Australis managing director Alessandro Boccardo told the publication the nuts would initially be sent to Europe for processing, but there were ambitions to treat them in Australia in the future.
