Peru on track for higher mango exports

Initial estimates indicate that Peruvian mango production will rise during the 2013-2014 season to 250,000 tons (MT).

Peruvian Mango Producers and Exporters Association (APEM) president Juan Carlos Rivera told mango_77999356www.freshfruitportal.com that around 112,000MT will go to fresh exports, while an additional 60,000MT will be shipped frozen, canned or dehydrated.

Shipments will begin next month and are expected to increase between 10% and 12%, as indicated by good flowering and cold levels.

In Piura, Rivera said flowering has been similar to last year, while levels have increased in the valleys of Lambayeque and Casma.

"Piura contributes 75% of production, so we estimate that growth will not be on as grand of a scale as we would have thought," Rivera said.

"In the cases of Lambayeque and Casma, there will be greater production."
