Hail hits Argentine blueberry region
The Argentinean Blueberry Commission (ABC) expects hail experienced in the Concordia region last week will affect no more than 2% of the country's production.
ABC manager Ines Pelaez told www.freshfruitportal.com the hailstorm hit the area on Wednesday morning, and the Blueberry Producers’ Association of Mesopotamia Argentina (APAMA) confirmed it would likely lead to a 5% decrease on initial forecasts for the region.
Pelaez said the preliminary estimate of 2% came from the fact the area covered by the hailstorm was not very wide, and affected plants at different phenological stages including some varieties in the flowering phase.
She said the ABC would be able to provide a better estimate this week.
