U.S.: Giumarra prepares for increased volumes of NZ Lemonade apples

U.S. produce company Giumarra is preparing for increased volumes and renewed marketing objectives of New-Zealand grown Lemonade apples.

The company is now entering its third year as North America's sole supplier of the Royal Gala-Braeburn cross.

"We know from market research that apples are still one of consumers' most-purchased items in the produce department," said Jason Bushong, division manager of Giumarra Wenatchee.

"Consumers are seeking new, exciting flavors and Lemonade is a unique variety that fits the bill. It's a striking yellow apple and the flavor is refreshing and tangy-sweet with a hint of effervescence."

Although the apples are only grown in New Zealand, there are plans to expand to North America.

"Our fresh crop Lemonade apples have an outstanding texture that delivers an elevated eating experience to consumers to keep them coming back for repeat purchases all season long," said Bushong.

First shipments of the apple will arrive at the end of May on both the West and the East Coasts, with the season to run through August.
