Peru’s agro-exports reached $2.935 billion in the first quarter of 2026, rising 6.4 percent year-on-year, according to the Peruvian Association of Exporters (ADEX), although growth slowed significantly from the 16 percent increase recorded during the same period last year.
The slowdown was largely attributed to rising fertilizer prices, higher international freight costs, and ongoing disruptions to global maritime routes linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Mario Salazar, chairman of ADEX’s Agroindustries, Food, and Beverages Committee, told Peruvian news agency Andina that uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continues to generate concern for exporters due to stricter maritime controls and potential impacts on global trade flows.

Climate-related risks also remain a key concern for the sector. While fears of severe rainfall have eased, industry representatives said continued monitoring of winter weather conditions remains necessary to avoid disruptions to production and logistics.
Peru's shipments remain stable
Export volumes fell 1.7 percent year-on-year to 1.22 million tonnes during the January-March period, reflecting pressure on shipment volumes despite stronger export values.
Among fresh produce categories, grape exports declined by two percent, and fresh/dried mango exports fell by 8.3 percent compared with the same period last year. In contrast, blueberries and avocados continued to record strong growth supported by sustained international demand.
The United States remained Peru’s largest export destination, accounting for 38.3 percent of total agro-export shipments.
