Robust demand to sustain Zespri’s 2026/27 grower return forecast
While global shipping lanes face turbulent waters, Zespri is finding smooth sailing. According to the company’s June 17 Orchard Gate Return (OGR) forecast, this year’s results are set to mirror last season's consistent grower returns, buoyed by a surge in early-season demand.
The New Zealand kiwifruit marketer expects per-tray returns of up to NZD$10.40 for Zespri Green, NZD$12.25 for SunGold, and NZD$17.25 for RubyRed.

The estimate also projects corporate net profit after tax, including license revenue, of up to NZD$365 million, over 30 percent above last year’s NZD$280 million.
Zespri CEO Jason Te Brake said demand had supported the season’s early performance, particularly in Europe and North America, while other key destinations remain promising.
“We’re continuing to perform well in Japan and Korea, with steady sales in China, where we’re seeing intense pricing pressure in the premium fruit category,” he said.
The June forecast shows modest adjustments from the company’s March guidance across several categories. Zespri Green is now forecast to return up to NZD$105,000 per hectare ($42,500 per acre), nearly seven percent above March guidance. SunGold returns are forecast up to NZD$203,000 per hectare ($82,200 per acre), slightly below the previous guidance of NZD$204,000 per hectare.

“Fruit quality is also generally tracking well, but with a large crop to manage, maintaining quality remains a focus,” Te Brake added.
Grower returns to conquer freight costs
The forecast incorporates higher freight costs linked to the conflict in the Middle East, which has affected global shipping routes and logistics expenses. However, projections remain positive, especially with a peace deal between Iran and the US about to be finalized.

Te Brake said the company remains vigilant.
“We continue to work closely with our long-term shipping partners to monitor the situation, with our shipping program continuing to run to plan,” he said.
