Peru forecasts Canada-bound ag export growth spurt
Fresh grapes, guavas, mangoes, avocados, mandarins, cocoa, olives and onions from Peru are set for good times ahead in Canada, according to the South American country’s Ministry for Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR). 
MINCETUR bilateral affairs coordinator Álvaro Díaz Bedregal, told website Agraria.pe that Canada was a market of refined and demanding consumers, highlighting good opportunities for Peru’s high quality and value added products.
With a free trade agreement (FTA) in place, non-traditional exports between the two countries have surged 40% since 2010.
Promperú deputy director of market intelligence Paula Carrión Tello, said non-traditional products accounted for a large proportion of Peruvian exports arriving in the Canadian cities of Vancouver (70%), Toronto (58%), Montreal (57%) and Halifax (75%).
He said the Peruvian departments that had most benefitted from the arrangement were La Libertad, Ica, Arequipa, Junín and Madre de Dios.
