India's Karnataka state could be the next source of fresh, organic produce to Europe. Producers from the region are switching to organic farming methods to meet foreign demand, Times of India reported.

The Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has begun collecting data on organic production from the northern region of the state.

KCCI joint secretary C N Karikatti said the products are already being sold on the local market. Over coming months, such produce should be available for export.

"To meet the growing demand of organic products, traders from European countries have approached us. Citizens in these countries prefer organic products because it is healthy. We have assured them that in the next couple of months, we will start exporting these products," Karikatti told Times of India.

"Collection of data includes quality and quantity of organic produce in the region, types of crops grown and details of organic farmers. We also plan to collect the data of farmers from south Karnataka.

"The process of data collection will be done soon and we will provide a big platform for organic farmers to sell their products in European countries."
