Mozambique banana exporter edges closer to Europe and U.S.

Mozambican banana exporter Matanuska has announced it may supply to European and U.S. markets this year, but is still waiting on international quality certification approval, according to website Macauhub.com.mo.

The company’s banana project is a joint venture with marketing company Chiquita Brands International, with a combined investment of US$50 million over 1,200 hectares of land with a total of 3,000 hectares available, according to Reefertrends.

Matanuska administrative and legal advisor Clayton Jonham said he was expecting the arrival of experts this year to assess whether requirements were being met, reported Macauhub.  The story said the experts belonged to an ‘international organization’ linked to food quality certification.

The company has already shipped bananas to the Middle East, reported German website Fruchthandel.de.
