Storms disrupt NZ kiwifruit and apple harvests

Storms in the central and eastern parts of New Zealand's North Island have interrupted kiwifruit and apple harvesting, with infrastructure problems also causing delays, Radio New Zealand reported.

New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers president Peter Ombler told the radio if the storms happened next month the situation would have been worse.

Pipfruit New Zealand technical manager Mike Butcher said most apple picking was already completed in Hawke's Bay, but the storms did cause delays for remaining harvests, the story reported.

Rain and wind also disrupted kiwifruit plantations in the Bay of Plenty.
