Himachal Pradesh is the leading apple-growing state in the country, contributing around INR32 billion (US$533 billion) to GDP each year, a National Agriculture Development Scheme spokesperson was reported as saying.

The story reported the state government would simplify the 'Apple Rejuvenation Project', which will incorporate 1,500 hectares, with orchards involved gaining access to pollenizers and micro-irrigation facilities, the story reported.

In addition, the state government has increased subsidies for anti-hail nets from 50% to 80%.
