Bloom Fresh ramps up IP enforcement program to protect grape varieties

As the Northern Hemisphere's table grape harvest reaches its peak months, UK-based breeder company Bloom Fresh announced it's ramping up a global crackdown on table grape intellectual property infringement.

The brand's dedicated enforcement team will intensify monitoring and investigative efforts on global supply chains, searching for any signs of unlawful propagation. With this initiative, the company is sending a clear deterrent message to all infringers of its proprietary grape varieties: Bloom Fresh will not hesitate to take action against any IP breach.

“Innovation is the backbone of this industry, but it can only thrive if we protect it,” said Josep Estiarte, CEO of Bloom Fresh. “This is about protecting our authorized growers who invest to bring high-quality fruit to market and about safeguarding consistent quality for consumers worldwide.”

Formed by the merger of IFG and SNFL, Bloom Fresh owns and manages the genetics from both breeding programs and holds rights over many of the industry’s most renowned varieties, including IFG Ten (Sweet Globe™), IFG Seven (Cotton Candy™), IFG Six (Sweet Sapphire™), Sheegene 20 (Allison™), and Sheegene 2 (Timpson™).

The brand is calling on the produce industry to report suspicious and unauthorized fruit in the market, arguing that infringement undermines legitimate growers, disrupts market stability, and poses a serious quality risk.

“This is our biggest monitoring and enforcement effort to date, and we need the industry’s help to make it effective,” added Estiarte. “By working together, we can protect the future of premium table grapes for growers and consumers worldwide.”

The Bloom Fresh has already scored several wins in landmark cases, including last season's removal of hundreds of hectares of infringing vines in Peru, Brazil, and China.
