The main avocado producing areas in Mexico are Michoacán, Jalisco, State of Mexico, and Nayarit, with the first two being the only ones authorized to export the fruit to the United States.

However, that may change in the near future, as the State of Mexico has completed the necessary phytosanitary requirements and currently awaits approval from US authorities to begin avocado shipments across the border.

The government agency said that it will continue to promote actions to strengthen productivity, plant health, technological innovation, and the opening of new international markets to solidify the sector's growth and expand commercial opportunities for producers.

In 2025, avocado was the second most exported Mexican agri-food product to the United States. Sales were valued at over $3.6 billion, accounting for eight percent of total Mexican agri-food exports to that market.
