Price for Peru’s grapes rises 13% through November

The average price of Peru’s grape exports from January to November increased 13% over 2009, according to a report from the country’s agriculture ministry, news agency Andina.com.pe reported.

Grapes fetched an average of $2,347 per metric ton in 2010, compared with $2,077/MT in 2009, the website said.

Total export volume was up 44% for the first 11 months of 2010 over the same period in 2009, the report said. The exports were valued at $108 million.

The main market is the U.S., with 24% of exports, followed by Hong Kong (15%), the Netherlands (13%), Russia (11%) and England (10%).

The main production areas in Peru are Ica (38%), Lima (23%), La Libertad (17%) and Piura (12%).
