Chile govt proposes new agricultural standards regulation

Chile's Agricultural Minister José Antonio Galilea has presented the case for new agricultural transaction regulation laws before a commission of the nation's Chamber of Deputies.

The Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI) said the new laws sought to establish mechanisms and precise instruments to determine price transparency and regulation for agricultural products, with clear procedural standards to evaluate quality and quantity.

MINAGRI said the proposed law would solve the lack of agreement on agricultural commercialization standards in the industry, due to the fact many buyers used their own equipment and procedures to determine final prices.

It will likely take a maximum of 30 days for the Chamber of Deputies to evalute the proposal.
