Peru is expected to show a 150% year-on-year increase in grape production hitting 325,000 metric tons (MT) in 2013, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) report.

The study highlights the country's spectacular success from almost non-existent production in 2000 to an estimated 130,000MT by the end of 2012.

Exports have fuelled volumes with the U.S. the largest consumer importing 30,973MT in 2011, followed by the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Russia and China.

Other significant markets include the U.K., Indonesia, Spain and Colombia.

Grapes are mainly produced in the country's central valleys along the coast, such as Ica and Lima, with Piura and Lambayeque regions on the northern coast rapidly developing.

Peru produces mainly Red Globe, with other varieties including Ā Crimson Seedless, Flame Seedless, Thompson Seedless and Sugrone.
