Panama’s pineapple exports expand with new U.S. deal
Panamanian pineapple exports are expanding under a new agreement between Tropical Fruit Co. S.A. and a U.S. company, enabling the product to reach additional international markets. The deal supports up to 741 acres of sustainable cultivation, focusing on economic growth aligned with environmental and social responsibility.
Dora Espinoza Del Cid, director of Tropical Fruit Co., noted her company’s extensive experience in exporting to markets such as Germany and England. In these markets, Panamanian pineapple is valued for its sweetness, aroma, and quality, attributes attributed to the country's climatic conditions and certified production standards, Del Cid said.
Minister of Commerce and Industry Julio Moltó emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating that it exemplifies Panama’s potential to diversify exports. He said, “These achievements reflect the country's commitment to offering quality products, under international standards and with sustainability as a central focus.”
The initiative aims to enhance production, create local employment, and reinforce Panama’s reputation as a dependable exporter in the global agribusiness sector, adhering to international certifications demanded by overseas markets. Panamanian pineapple continues to strengthen its position as a competitive product, known for its flavor, texture, and natural sweetness, appealing to consumers worldwide.
