Peru watermelon exports up 103.8% through October
Exports of Peruvian watermelon totaled about US $1.8 million from January to October 2010, an increase of 103.8% compared with the previous year, according to the country’s Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG).
In a news release, MINAG said that the principal receiving market is the Netherlands, which received US $1.35 million of the total, some 75% of the export crop. Ecuador followed with 11.2% and the UK with 10.7%.
The leading exporter of watermelon was Rancho Bravo, with 57% of exports, or US $1.02 million, followed by Corpfrut PerĂş with 40% and Agronegocios Andinos, which chipped in with 1%.
