Hazera launches more bell pepper and tomato varieties in Spain

Israeli seed company Hazera has made further inroads into the Spanish vegetable market with the release of new bell pepper and tomato varieties.

Hazera, which launched the cultivars through its Almeria subsidiary, is currently in the midst of launching a large range of varieties specifically developed for the Spanish market.

The new tomato varieties Hazera is adding to its selection in Spain are the Marchante, based on the Canario strain with its large firm fruit and long shelf life, Nicolate, a high-yielding Roma winter tomato, Corrador, a high quality beef tomato and Abascal, a cluster tomato.

Hazera is also expanding its pepper offerings with Ochoymedio, a red blocky pepper said to have excellent coloring and shape, and Clavero, which is well suited for hot climate cultivation.

Commercial director for southern Europe and Israel, Zion Barel, said the Spanish vegetable market was one of the  largest in the world, with an annual turnover of €250 million (US$282 million). Around 90% of its produce is sold overseas.

The company said it was now well-established in Spain, and that more fruit and vegetable varieties would be released in the coming years.
