Agronometrics in Charts: A $296M drop in Mexico's berry exports, and one category still growing

Mexico’s berry exports fell sharply during the first half of 2026, with exports of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries totaling $2.03 billion, down 12.7 percent from $2.33 billion a year earlier.

Strawberries accounted for most of the decline. Exports fell 29.8 percent to $523.1 million, while raspberries and blackberries declined 12 percent to $994.5 million. Blueberries were the only category to grow, with exports rising 13.7 percent to $516.4 million.

The shift is particularly significant for the United States market, which remains the dominant destination for Mexican berries.

Mexico’s berry supply is also geographically concentrated. Jalisco accounted for about 77.5 percent of the country’s raspberry and blackberry export value in the second quarter of 2026, while Jalisco and Michoacán together represented 97.6 percent.

The monthly data point to a notable slowdown as the year progressed. Combined berry exports dropped to $258.3 million in May and just $107 million in June, with June exports down 34.2 percent from the same month in 2025.

For US buyers, the first-half decline points to a potentially tighter supply environment for Mexican strawberries. At the same time, continued blueberry growth signals an expanding role for Mexico in the US blueberry market and a gradual shift in the composition of its berry exports.
