Turners & Growers to build fruit-processing plant to focus on apple products
New Zealand’s Turners & Growers will build a new NZD 4 million (US$3.02 million) fruit processing plant in Hawke’s Bay through its subsidiary EnzaFoods, local news site stuff.co.nz reported.
The plan will start to process some 10,000 tons of apples to make pulp for bakeries and manufacturers of fruit-based products. In 2012 the plant will start slicing some 20,000 tons of apples for use in the food service industry as well.
Additionally a smaller amount of kiwi, berries and vegetables will be processed.
The finished product will be used for export, mainly to Australia and Japan, the article quoted EnzaFood’s managing director Jeff Wesley as saying.
