India: Mahindra offers app-based farming advisory platform

Mahindra Agri Solutions Limited (MASL) announced the launch of ‘MyAgriGuru’, a 24-7 advisory platform for farmers that has been introduced as a mobile app.

Developed in English and Hindi for the time being, the app has been launched across India and is available on Andorid.

"Delivering Farm Tech Prosperity has always been a key business driver and a long-term vision for us at Mahindra. We aspire to positively impact the lives of 75 million farmers by 2025," MASL agribusiness president Ashok Sharma said in a release.

"While Samriddhi centers have certainly contributed to this vision through our direct association with around 1 lakh (100,000) farmers on an annual basis, we do realize the need to expand our horizon and to reach out to a far bigger farming community.

"The development of MyAgriGuru is the result of this aspiration and thinking. It is a 24x7 advisory platform for farmers that will significantly enhance their knowledge and productivity, ultimately leading to higher output and prosperity."

The group describes the new platform as a "reservoir of information essential for farming" which also allows collaboration with other farmers and agricultural experts, in order to seek quick and reliable solutions.

Mahindra is working with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to source weather forecasts for a five-day period, in order to ensure that that crucial farming activities are aligned with the climatic conditions.

It has also associated with Commodity Exchange – NCDEX in order to share real-time prices of various mandis (markets) across the country. It will empower farmers to compare prices and seek the best across states.

"MyAgriGuru’ furthers the Government of India’s vision to digitise the agriculture sector as a part of its umbrella program of ‘Digital India’," Sharma said.

He added the app would also play a significant part in achieving the Government’s target to double farmer income by the year 2022.

"This app will enable our farmers to make informed decisions at every stage of the farming process which will boost both agricultural productivity and farm incomes substantially," he said.

Key features of MyAgriGuru include Crop, Agri-Buzz, Market Price and Weather, while ‘Charcha’ is another essential feature that harnesses the knowledge and expertise of Agri experts and other experienced farmers across the community.
