Five countries unite under International Pome Fruit Alliance in Berlin

The International Pome Fruit Alliance (IPFA) has been made official at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, with aims to share different apple varieties and market them under the one banner, according to German website Fruchthandel.de.

The story reported the alliance is registered in the U.K. and includes apple producers from five countries; VOG and VI.P from the Tyrol region of Italy, Fruitways from South Africa, New Zealand’s Heartland, Montague Fresh from Australia and San Clemente from Chile.

Fruchthandel said the main goal of the alliance was to work with new varieties from around the world and provide information about their characteristics, what they require and how to make them successful.

The alliance will market the varieties on a global basis and royalties for different variety owners will be developed, the story reported.
